Having been self employed since High School, with the exception of a 4 year stint in the U.S. Navy, I had operated really two different business’s, for 10 years an art and framing business and then after selling the property we operated on, I joined with two other partners and ran a construction company until I joined UGA as a general contractor.
There were several reasons that I left the construction company. First, the industry was going through a very difficult phase in the late 80’s and early 90’s so I was beginning to look for other opportunities. Secondly, though I enjoyed the actual building portion of the business, I was overall very displeased with the sub-contractors that I had to constantly have to work with and answer for. Lastly, I was looking for an opportunity where I could get some support in what I was doing. As a small business owner I was very tired of taking all of the risks by myself.
I started with UGA on February 15 th of 1991
In some ways UGA has not changed my life one bit. I am still self-employed, running my own shop. That I just love. But in other ways UGA has changed not only my life significantly but also my family as well. Where as before, I was all by myself taking all the risks, carrying all the debt, keeping track of all inventories and employees. Now I have unlimited income opportunities but with very little of the exposures that I was so used to shouldering. Here I have a team of self-employed owners just like myself all working together toward one simple goal, helping other people everyday. In the process of helping others we in turn can find significant rewards for our families and ourselves. Here at UGA we have only ourselves as limitations.
This may sound strange in a commission only opportunity but UGA has provided me and my family with not only a steady income that I can expect and predict but also it has allowed me to have a raise every Monday morning. You see, every week we turn in more business and that business is added to the block already on the books and well we keep more than we lose, so every week I get a raise. Where else in America can you get a raise every week? I never thought I would be able to say this but we may make the double comma club this year. If not this year, we are surely going to be close. Go UGA. |
