Prior to coming to UGA I was "Risk Manager" for a large insurance broker in Seattle, WA in which I serviced mostly major commercial accounts. My duties were developing safety programs for Workers Comp and Fire Prevention for our clients in order to reduce losses and keep their insurance premiums to a minimum.
I left my previous job due to a corporate buy out and my position was being eliminated so I received a 3 month severance package and started looking for a new career. Until moving to UGA I was a salaried employee doing fairly well with a company car, etc.
My career with UGA started in October of 1993, in the Dave Mack Division in Seattle, WA. I really wanted to get into sales as I knew that was where the money and rewards were it I could find the right company and situation. I was a rep for seven months until being promoted to a Sr Agent. Three years later in mid-1996 I started as a District Manager and then in the fall of 1999 was promoted by Tim Joslen to a Division Mgr in Portland, Oregon. A true career opportunity could not have been drawn up better, work hard and prove yourself and you get rewarded!
UGA has changed my life and my families lives in many ways. First the commission only sales position taught me "Work Ethic" that was very much needed to do well as an outside sales person. I learned how to be good at marketing, improve my selling and people skills and really get good at time management and "multi-tasking". The financial rewards came along with each step up with the UGA. I always had a great mentor to show me the way, all I needed was to apply myself and believe in the opportunity and now I have all the control and freedom one would want in a career. UGA has made my dreams come true and they sure have made the ride very rewarding, it has been fun with all the trips and contests in which give us that "carrot" to stretch a little more to meet our dreams.
My income is now secure with a solid 5 figure Residual Account, Vesting Stock (this year) for retirement and an excellent weekly advance to run my business and family life. My income alone has increased 5 fold in ten years from my previous position and I did fairly well in my other career. Finally, the people are fantastic at the agency, at the insurance center and in our own Region and Division. I learned the culture of UGA and fed it back to my team, work hard - play hard, with respect for each other and our clients. The career really does allow you to ENJOY THE RIDE and live the dream, thanks UGA, Troy, Tony, Tim Joslen and Mr Jensen for providing the opportunity!!
